Pet stains and pet odor are two different problems

The spot disappears and the smell comes back a week later. Here's why, and what actually fixes it.

A pet accident goes through the carpet, through the backing, and into the pad — sometimes into the subfloor. Surface cleaning removes the visible stain and leaves everything underneath.

That's why the smell returns on the first humid day. Moisture reactivates the urine salts sitting in the pad.

What a real odor treatment looks like

Odor work is a separate service from carpet cleaning, and it's done in order:

  • Find every deposit with a UV light — most are bigger than they look
  • Saturate to the depth of the contamination, not just the surface
  • Apply an enzyme that digests the urine solids, and give it dwell time
  • Sub-surface extraction to pull the contamination back out
  • In severe cases, replace the affected pad section and seal the subfloor

When you should call

If you can smell it when the furnace kicks on, or a guest notices it before you do, it's in the pad. Tell us up front so we schedule the time for it.
